Glorious Gorillas

The great care provided to the western lowland gorillas at Lincoln Park Zoo represents just a small amount of the innovative work our Animal Care staff, scientists, Veterinary staff and others do for this charismatic primate species. G Is for Goualougo

Lincoln Park Zoo researchers have been helping to save great apes in the Nouabale-Ndoki National Park in the Republic of Congo as part of the Goualougo Triangle Ape Project for more than 20 years! In this pristine region, chimpanzees and gorillas live together in the same ecosystem. In this episode of ABCs of the Zoo: G for Goualougo, learn all about this incredible research and how you can help protect great apes.

Mischievous Mondika

Of course, this wouldn’t be much fun if we didn’t include a video of one of the resident gorillas at Regenstein Center for African Apes. Here’s Mondika in 2020, showing off his climbing skills. Mondika is named after a field site in the Goualougo Triangle that features three habituated groups of apes and is becoming a great ape tourism site.
